Ultrasonic Wall Thickness Gauge There are 2 products.

Wall thickness gauges are designed to measure thickness of materials from one side using ultrasonic sound waves. When an ultrasonic wave is sent through the material, this signal is reflected by the back wall of the material and received by the wall thickness gauge. The delay between sending and receiving the signal can be used to calculate the wall thickness of the material.

To be able to measure thickness of materials with an ultrasonic thickness gauge, the material needs to be homegenous and it needs to carry ultrasonic sound waves. Most metals are suitable for measurement with a wall thickness gauge but other materials such as glass, some plastics and even rubber can be measured as well with ultrasonic waves.

Common applications where ultrasonic thickness gauges are used are measuring corrosion on ship hulls or inside pipes from the outside. Corroded metal does not carry ultrasonic waves because it contains air. By using a wall thickness gauge you can very easily measure the thickness of the non-corroded part of the metal. This is especially useful when the backside of the material is out of reach, this is the case with many ship hulls and pipes. Other common applications are measurement of wall thickness of plastic and glass bottles and metal cans or containers. Ultrasonic thickness gauges can be used for all kinds of quality control or inspection purposes. Contact us for more information.
